Privacy Policy
How Wearbird handles your information when you use the Wearbird app for iPhone and this website.
Effective: October 7, 2026
In short
- Your photos stay on your phone. We don’t collect or keep your photos, your closet pictures or your own photo.
- A photo leaves your phone only when you choose an AI feature, and only after you say yes in the app. It is used for that one result and then deleted.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking across other apps or websites. We don’t sell your information.
- You can delete your account and everything in it from the app at any time.

Your account
Wearbird creates an anonymous account the first time you open it, using Google Firebase Authentication. The account has a random identifier. It has no name, email address or phone number. With it we keep when the account was created, your time zone (so dates and credit refreshes follow your day), whether you finished the welcome steps, and which version of the photo notice you accepted.
Your photos
The photos you add to Wearbird stay in the app’s storage on your phone. That includes photos of your clothes, the cut-out pieces in your closet, outfit pictures and your own photo for the fitting room. We don’t upload them to our servers, and we don’t back them up. Removing the app removes them.
Cutting a piece out of a photo, removing a background, erasing, and the first guess at a piece’s kind and colour all happen on your phone. They use Apple’s Vision framework and models built into the app.
If you allow access to your photo library, Wearbird looks through your photos on your phone to suggest outfits you could add. This also happens on your phone, and nothing is sent anywhere.
AI features: the one time a photo leaves your phone
A few features use AI that can’t run on a phone. One turns a photo into clean product shots of each piece (“Lift with AI”). Another cleans up a camera shot. The third shows an outfit on you.
The first time you use one, the app tells you what is sent and asks whether to allow it. Wearbird remembers your answer and doesn’t ask again. You can change it at any time with the AI features switch under You in the app. While it is off, nothing is sent and the rest of the app keeps working.
When AI features are on and you use one:
- The app sends the photo you chose to our server. For an outfit on you, it also sends the pictures of the pieces you chose. When images arrive we strip their location and other embedded details (EXIF).
- Our server sends them to OpenRouter, the AI service that makes the result. OpenRouter receives pictures and short generic instructions, never your name, account identifier or contact details. It handles them under its own terms and privacy policy, which may allow it to keep them for a limited time.
- The result comes back to your phone and is kept there. Our server deletes your photo shortly after the job ends. It deletes the result as soon as your phone has it, and never keeps either for more than 48 hours.
We don’t use your photos to train AI models. AI results are made-up pictures and can be wrong about fit, colour or detail.
Your closet records
Our server keeps the written details of your closet with your account. These are each piece’s kind, name, colour, material, warmth and formality, and its size on the board. They also include your saved outfits, the days you planned, and the days you marked as worn. These records refer to their pictures by a random key. The pictures themselves stay on your phone.
Pieces from a store link
If you add a piece from a shop’s web page, the app opens that page on your phone and reads the product’s name, brand, price and picture. It sends only those details and the page address to our server, to make the product shot. That is handled like the AI features above. Wearbird doesn’t see your browsing or your shop accounts. The brand, price and page address are kept with that piece.
Weather and location
If you allow it, Wearbird uses your approximate location to get today’s forecast from Apple Weather (WeatherKit). You can pick a city instead, and city search uses Apple Maps. Your location goes to Apple to get the forecast. It is not sent to our servers.
Calendar
If you turn on Calendar in the app, Wearbird reads your upcoming events on your phone to suggest what to wear. Event titles, times and places stay on your phone. When you plan an outfit for an event, our server stores only an anonymous marker that links the outfit to that day.
Credits and fair use
AI features use credits. Free credits are given once per phone. To check that, Wearbird uses Apple’s DeviceCheck, which lets us set two yes-or-no flags that Apple keeps for your device. We don’t receive or store a device identifier. Our server also checks that requests come from the real Wearbird app, using Apple’s App Attest through Firebase App Check.
We keep a record of your credits and of each AI job: its kind, when it ran, whether it worked, the credits it used and what it cost us. We use these records to run credits, return a credit when a job fails, stop abuse and keep costs in check.
This version of Wearbird has no purchases. If we add paid credits or a subscription, Apple will handle the payment and we will never see your card details. Apple will send us details of the purchase: the product, transaction identifiers, dates and renewal status. We would store these with your account so the purchase works and can be restored.
Support notes and logs
If you send a note from Support in the app, we receive the topic and your message. We also receive the email address if you give one, plus your app version, iOS version, phone model and language. We use them to reply and to fix problems. If you email us, we receive your email address and message.
Our server keeps technical logs to keep Wearbird running and secure. They hold request times, errors and a scrambled account identifier. Logs never contain your photos or sign-in tokens.
What we don’t do
- No advertising, no analytics tools and no tracking across other companies’ apps or websites.
- We don’t sell or rent personal information, and we don’t share it for advertising.
- We don’t collect your name, contacts, precise location history or browsing history.
Service providers
We use these providers only to run Wearbird:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, App Check) and Google Cloud, where our server runs and briefly holds images for AI jobs.
- OpenRouter, the AI service, only for the AI features you allow.
- Apple: App Attest, DeviceCheck, Weather and Maps. Apple’s App Store would handle any future purchases.
These providers may process information in countries other than yours, including the United States, under their own privacy and security commitments. We may also share information when the law requires it, to protect our users or the service, or as part of a business reorganisation with the same protections.
How long we keep it
- Photos and AI results on our server: deleted once the job is done and your phone has the result, and never kept more than 48 hours.
- Closet records, credit and job records, and support notes: kept while your account exists.
- Technical logs: kept for a limited time, then deleted.
- Delete account (in the app, under You) erases your closet, outfits, plans, worn days, credits, job records and support notes from our servers. It also clears the app on your phone. It can’t be undone. DeviceCheck’s two flags stay with Apple, and they hold no personal information.
Your account is anonymous, so we can’t find it once the app is gone. To erase your data from our servers, use Delete account before you remove the app.
Your choices and rights
- Photos, Camera, Location and Calendar access can be turned off at any time in iOS Settings. Calendar can also be turned off under You in the app.
- You can turn AI features on or off at any time under You → AI features. While they are off, Wearbird won’t send a photo.
- You can delete your account in the app under You → Delete account.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your information, to object to or limit how we use it, or to withdraw consent. To use these rights, send us a note from Support in the app, which lets us match the request to your anonymous account, or email us. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Where the EU or UK GDPR applies, we rely on these legal bases. We use your information to provide the service you ask for. We rely on your consent to send photos for AI processing and to use your location and calendar. We rely on our legitimate interests to keep Wearbird secure, prevent abuse and control costs.
Children
Wearbird is not meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has used Wearbird, contact us and we will delete their information.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections, and our storage is private. Access is limited to what is needed to run Wearbird. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t promise absolute security.
Changes
We will post any change to this policy here and update the date above. If a change affects how photos are handled, the app will ask you again before it sends one.
